White House Greetings

As part of my usual afternoon routine, I headed out to the mailbox with Ian on my hip and Brady in tow. After chasing Brady through the oleander bushes lining the sidewalk (twice), picking up his shoes (which he took off and flung out of fury at being stopped from careening through the bushes), and collecting our mail, I was super excited to see this arrive for Ian:

White House 1

One of the little known perks of having a baby is the personalized greeting from the President and First Lady. I’m kind of a history geek, so I adore it.

Brady has one of his own from G.W. and Laura:

White House 2

(Notice that we learned to open the envelope with a letter opener this time around instead of shredding it? The envelope is the only part with the baby’s name actually handwritten on it.)

Want one for your own new arrival? Just mail the baby’s name, address, and date of birth to:

White House Greetings Office

Room 39

Washington, DC 20500

(I know that both of the presidents mentioned are polarizing figures, but please, please, please don’t leave any comments on this post that are political in nature. Unless you want to diss Franklin Pierce. Never liked him.)

Speaking of presidents… As a slightly amusing dinner time activity, we’ve been trying to teach Brady to recognize all of the presidents on his placemat. However, Brady’s real interest lies in putting bits of food on their faces and waiting for people to exclaim things like, “Does Rutherford B. Hayes have corn on his nose?!” He has managed to master finding Washington, Nixon, and Reagan. I fear his knowledge of the presidents that are covered by his plate will always be lacking, though.

great items! so cool that you knew to do this! The closest that I have is Jimmy Carter’s signature on my Georgia driver’s license as governor when I was a teenager. When it was time to get a new license, they punched a hole in this one and let us keep it since he was now president. I’m your newest follower from New Friend Friday. I would be honored if you choose to do the same!

I wish I had known about that when my daughter was born, I would love a memento from the president. Great idea, love those place-mats too, I think I need those.
